George and Vivian are here!

George Terence Fresenius and Vivian Mae Fresenius
Born Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 6:00am and 6:01am

Dad's thoughts:
As you all know George and Vivian Fresenius were born January 5 2008. George was born first, Vivian second at 35 weeks and some change. It is believe that George instigated the first step into the unknown by breaking his happy sack and sending unimaginable quantities of water into our Sears mattress at 2:30 AM Saturday morning. Vivian was not part of this plan hence her first steps were and are a bit reluctant. Things seemed pretty normal at first. Newborn baby boy, girl, room. Parents tired sore, happy. George and Vivian started nursing almost right away from mommy as dad warmed up the changing machine. We weren't in our room long before Vivian started making a rasping little noise when she got excited or angry. The nursing staff watched her very closely and twice had staff from NICU come down and check on her. I soon learned the NICU had nothing to do with Mark Harmin but was a special ward for newborns needing a little more help. The rasping noise Vivian was making turned out to be wet lungs, not the same as Aqua Lung as I understand it. Vivian was brought to NICU when a few hours after birth she still had not worked out the wet lung issue. She was supported with the tiniest bit of additional oxygen, an IV for nutrition, hydration and a warm quiet place to recover. If you are thinking Chia herb garden you are not far off. Matina George and I were sent home on Monday. Yesterday Vivian was taken off the oxygen supplement and started getting take-out from mommy. Swedish gave us a crash pad for a few nights to help make our trips back and forth less annoying, If all goes well Vivian should be home by Saturday.....
